Collectors Called My Mom—Can I Ask for Email Only?

  • Collections
  • Privacy / harassment
  • Multiple loans / repayment priority

Question from a public Reddit discussion (paraphrased):

I'm 33, with overdue balances across Maya Easy Credit, SPayLater, SLoan, BillEase, GLoan and Grab Loan. My GLoan alone covers three loans with around ₱90K in stated balances. I have a day job and I'm looking for part-time work, but I can't pay everything this month.

SPayLater already called my mom. I contacted support, explained when I expected to cover the overdue payment, and asked them to stop calling her. The calls to her stopped after that request.

But another bill is coming, and the other collectors keep reaching out. Can I ask to be contacted by email only? I want to deal with my loans. I just don't want my reference contacts pulled into this again.

What other Redditors said (paraphrased from five different accounts)

Redditor A:

I think you have to accept some accounts may go to collections. Tell them what you can pay, preferably through email, and tackle one balance at a time. Keep something for food and essentials too.

Redditor B:

I asked Shopee support for email-only contact as well. No reply yet on my request. For me, calls and texts still varied a lot between lenders.

Redditor C:

On my SLoan, I asked support before the due date and got a form. I requested until October 14 and my account was given until October 20. That's only how mine went.

Redditor D:

People keep saying BillEase is nice to deal with. That wasn't my experience. The fees felt heavy, and I worried that small partial payments would only go toward penalties.

Redditor E:

After I lost my job, I asked BillEase about lowering penalties or interest. In my experience they were willing to talk. I'd still ask instead of assuming the answer's no.

One person got a due-date form. Another is still waiting for an answer about email-only contact. Two people describe very different experiences with the same lender.

He already got the calls to his mom stopped once. That's a relief—until the next due date comes. One Redditor got a new payment date; another couldn't even get an answer about email-only contact. With six lenders in the mix, whose phone rings next?
