The first due date changed after the auto-debit did not happen
One borrower applied for a UnionBank personal loan through the bank's website. An agent called within about 12 hours to verify details. The borrower reported approval around four hours after that call, with the funds reaching a UnionBank savings account. The borrower downloaded the disclosure statement to track the loan. It showed April 12 as the first due date. Because payment was supposed to use automatic debit from the savings account, the borrower made sure the account had enough funds. April 12 passed, but the payment was not debited. It still had not happened over the following days. The borrower emailed the bank to record that the scheduled debit had not taken place and to question any penalty that might result from the delay. A few days later, the bank sent a statement of account. The due date on that document was different from the date in the disclosure statement. That left two records for the same loan showing different dates. The borrower decided to follow the statement of account going forward. For the next payment, the borrower did not wait for auto-debit. A manual payment was sent around ten days before the date being followed. It was sent on a Sunday and appeared on Wednesday, three days later. The useful part of this account is the sequence: the first written due date, an auto-debit that did not happen, a later statement with a different due date, and the time a manual payment took to post. It is one borrower's reported UnionBank experience, not a statement of current universal product terms. Where the story stood The loan had been approved and disbursed, and the borrower completed a manual payment after the first expected auto-debit did not occur. The public account did not report a late charge and does not establish that the same approval, debit, or posting timeline applies to other borrowers today.
