Small payments, steady balance — still not the same as paid off

  • Repayment

  • Interest / fees

One Tala borrower described being several months overdue, making occasional small payments, and seeing a balance that they said had stopped increasing. A later reply did not show that the account had been paid off or that borrowing had resumed. That was one person’s observation, not a verified account ledger. Tala’s partial-payment guidance says payments reduce the balance used for later interest calculations, while its collections guidance says personalized repayment arrangements may be available. Neither tells us exactly why this borrower’s displayed balance behaved the way it did, or whether a specific settlement arrangement existed. The useful distinction is simple: making a partial payment, seeing a balance stay steady, and receiving confirmation that an account is closed are different things. This report does not show that small payments guarantee a balance freeze, discount, or particular collection outcome. If you made partial Tala payments while overdue, what changed later in the balance or repayment status? Share a short timeline without screenshots, account identifiers or private correspondence.
