Pregnant and out of work, a borrower could offer PHP 90,000 but the settlement request was refused
Pregnant and no longer working, a borrower was trying to resolve a Metrobank credit-card balance that had reached about PHP 168,800. The borrower said the original principal was about PHP 120,000 and that interest and penalties had increased the amount. With help from family, she had managed to put together PHP 90,000 for one payment. She said one caller rejected it, said only three months of penalties and interest could be removed, and told her she would have to coordinate with a "law office." Calls were coming every day. The amounts kept changing with later calls. The borrower said one person called PHP 90,000 impossible, another mentioned only a PHP 6,000 discount, and another quoted PHP 146,100. Other callers said the account was "abandoned," would go to a "law office," or was on its "last day" before being passed to a third-party collector. She emailed again and asked for her request to be sent to a supervisor, but did not say that a supervisor took over or that an agreement followed. She wanted to resolve the debt before childbirth and said the daily calls were causing stress. No later public update showed an accepted settlement, a payment under new terms, or a closed account.
