Six OLAs Overdue—How Did She Stop Borrowing Just to Pay?

  • Overdue
  • Collections
  • Multiple loans / repayment priority

From a public Reddit thread; follow-ups are BorrowTalk editorial summaries, not original-poster comments on BT.

Main post

A borrower said she decided on 17 August 2026 to stop taking a fresh OLA just to meet another app's due date. She described the first days as frightening: some loans became overdue, debt collectors sent messages and threats, and people around her were contacted or targeted in online posts, according to her account. Her mother and boyfriend initially knew nothing. She was afraid of disappointing them.

By the time she posted her update, she reported that she had paid off five OLA accounts. Her own tally went from twelve to seven. Of those seven, she said six were overdue and JuanHand was still current; GCash, Maya, Shopee and credit-card debts were counted separately. These were borrower-reported payment and account statuses. No independent lender settlement confirmations were included in the public account.

The first days after stopping tapal

She wrote about putting a collection phone on Do Not Disturb, limiting social-media exposure and filtering threatening messages. Those are descriptions of what she did to cope, not proof that the demands stopped. She also told two trusted people about the situation. In her account, their response made it easier to keep facing the numbers.

For a borrower being contacted now, evidence and obligations should be kept separate: save the original loan contract, the lender's current written balance and payment receipts, and keep records of alleged threats or public shaming. Any settlement needs written confirmation from a verified lender channel. One person's decision to silence notifications should never be treated as a safe way to ignore formal notices.

Five payments reported; no new reloan by choice

She described paying off five apps and then choosing not to borrow again from them. She did not say those lenders denied a new application. That distinction matters: the change she reported was in her own borrowing behavior, even while most of the remaining accounts were still overdue.

She also said she was putting a small amount back into an emergency buffer. There is no evidence in the thread that every debt has been settled, that all payments have been validated by creditors, or that penalties and collection pressure ended. The report is about an unfinished recovery.

What five Redditors actually discussed

Condensed views from five different Reddit users. These are not BorrowTalk member comments.

Redditor A:

One reader said they badly needed this story and hoped to be out of their own debt cycle in 2027. It was a wish, not a promised payoff date.

Redditor B:

A commenter said they had recently finished GLoan and GGives and kept JuanHand current. They still considered leaving some credit for emergencies—an uneasy tension with the idea of stopping reborrowing.

Redditor C:

Another person had only recently realised that the tapal cycle could keep costing more than being late. They described keeping their phone on Do Not Disturb as well.

Redditor D:

A reader said the story gave them courage to tell their mother about the loans.

Redditor E:

A breadwinner helping with a sibling's schooling and a parent's treatment asked how long the harassment lasted. The public thread does not establish one reliable answer for all borrowers.

When does a paid bill actually shrink the debt?

Five reportedly paid-off apps are meaningful progress, but the borrower still described six overdue accounts and other separate obligations. She didn't offer an easy ending. What changed first was that a paid app stopped automatically becoming another new loan. If you are making that choice now, which payment can you document and which lender has actually confirmed the current balance? Share only what you are comfortable discussing publicly.
