₱18K Salary, ₱12K SPayLater—What Now?
Question from a Reddit borrower (paraphrased):
I earn ₱18,000 a month. My SPayLater payments are ₱12,000 every month for the next three months, then drop to around ₱6,000.
I also have GLoan, GGives, BillEase and Maya loans. I've managed to keep those on time, and my GLoan and GGives should finish in about four months.
I used to borrow from one app to pay another. I'm trying to stop.
Should I let SPayLater go overdue for now? Will collectors visit my home or contact my family?
What other Redditors said (five different commenters, paraphrased)
I finally paid mine after about a year overdue. Someone visited my home when I was roughly three months overdue, and I wasn't offered a discount.
My SPayLater account showed two choices: pay in full or pay in installments. I don't know if everyone sees those options.
I asked Shopee support about partial payments but hadn't received a response. I couldn't choose which overdue installment to pay first.
I had overdue SPayLater and SLoan balances. Collectors contacted my mom, and I received an email about a home visit. Nobody had actually visited.
My overdue amount was a little over ₱3,000, and a third-party collection agency was handling it. When I asked about partial payment, an agent told me to borrow from friends or relatives.
Same app. Very different experiences.
One borrower got a home visit after about three months. Another received a warning but no visit. One account showed an installment option, while another borrower couldn't get a clear partial-payment arrangement.
None of these experiences tells the original poster exactly what will happen next.
But there's one number no comment can soften.
₱18,000 salary minus ₱12,000 SPayLater leaves just ₱6,000 for every other loan, food, transport and the rest of the month.
Borrowing again might cover one due date and reopen the same problem next month.
The thread doesn't tell us how this borrower eventually handled it.
And that's the question that matters: how do you keep paying your debts when the payment plan itself leaves too little to live on?
