After a stroke, one family faced medical costs, a missed loan payment and an unresolved insurance request
A family member said a Home Credit loan belonged to the borrower's father. The borrower had experienced a stroke, was partially paralysed and was treated as a person with disability. He had operated a small store after retirement. His children were helping their parents financially, but one worked part-time at minimum wage, and the family described medical expenses and wider financial pressure while struggling to gather the PHP 5,000 monthly payment. The family member reported that about PHP 90,000 was still shown as payable. They understood the original principal to have been PHP 80,000 and believed the principal had already been paid, leaving interest, but the public source does not include a statement or ledger that can verify that calculation. After the account became one month overdue, the family member said about PHP 10,000 was being requested for the current month. Collection calls followed and someone also visited the home. According to the family member, collection agents said a medical certificate could be submitted so the account could be considered for insurance. The family member said the certificate was sent by email and customer service was contacted repeatedly. The reported result was a loop of similar answers, promised callbacks that did not arrive and no clear decision about insurance. The family was not asking to erase the obligation; it wanted a smaller monthly payment while also paying for the borrower's maintenance and physical therapy. BorrowTalk does not know whether the account actually carried insurance, whether the stroke was covered, whether complete documents were received or whether any payment relief was available. The remaining balance, principal-versus-interest split, calls and home visit are also the family's account and are not independently verified. Same-author replies were visible during research, but BorrowTalk could not retain deterministic Reddit comment permalinks for them. No amount, chronology or outcome from those replies is used here. Where the story stood The account was reported one month late while the family was supporting a borrower after a stroke and facing medical expenses and wider financial pressure. Collection calls and a home visit had occurred, and the family said it still had no clear answer on the medical-certificate or insurance request. The later payment and insurance outcome are unknown.
