A final demand arrived nearly two years after the borrower believed the card was paid
One borrower said a BPI credit-card outstanding balance had been paid almost two years before a new final demand letter arrived. The borrower had moved abroad in April 2024 and had not closed the card account before leaving. During the period after payment, the borrower said no credit-card statement reached the family home. The borrower still checked the BPI app from time to time and remembered the last visible credit balance in the prior year as a small negative-cent amount, not an amount due. In May 2026, a final demand letter reached the family home in the Philippines. According to the borrower, the letter demanded payment of any outstanding credit-card balance but did not state how much was allegedly owed. When the borrower checked the app again, the credit-card account was no longer visible. The borrower wondered whether an annual fee or another amount could have appeared after the earlier payment, but the public source did not contain a statement, transaction list or itemized calculation. That possibility remains a question, not an established cause. The borrower contacted BPI by email and later said the bank had responded. The public thread did not reproduce the private response or explain whether the demand was withdrawn, a balance was identified, or the account was formally closed. The same chronology was also cross-posted by the author in another subreddit. BorrowTalk treats those two posts as one person's source unit, not two independent experiences. Commenters' legal interpretations, balance guesses and account-closing advice are not incorporated as facts. Where the story stood The borrower had a remembered full payment, no intervening statement, a demand without an amount and no visible card account in the app. The actual balance, the reason for the demand and the later account outcome remained unknown in the public record.
