How to Close Your Tala Account After Paying in Full
Tala lets you request account deletion once your balance is settled, but deletion is permanent and some records are kept for years under anti-money laundering rules. Here's the process and what to check before you do it.
You can close your Tala account, but only after the balance is fully settled, and Tala treats it as permanent deletion. Per Tala's help center, you send a request through its help page with your full name, registered mobile number or email, a photo of the front of your ID and a selfie holding that ID. After that you can't log in again, and you may not be able to use Tala in the future.
Deletion removes less than most people expect, so check what it does first.
Before you close your Tala account: make sure it's really paid
"Bayad na" on your side and "settled" on Tala's side are not always the same moment. Check these in order:
- Paid: you have the receipt or reference number from GCash, the bank, or the payment partner.
- Posted: the payment shows in the Tala app against the loan.
- Settled: the app shows no outstanding balance, nothing due, no pending charge.
- Screenshot that zero-balance screen with the date showing. Save it outside your phone too.
Only then request deletion. Tala's help article says any outstanding balance has to be settled first, so a request while a payment is still posting may just bounce.

How to delete a Tala account, step by step
What Tala's help center described when we checked on October 30, 2026:
- Go to Tala's official help center and send a deletion request from there.
- Give your full name and the mobile number or email registered to the account.
- Attach a clear photo of the front of a valid ID, plus a selfie holding the same ID.
- Wait for confirmation, and keep whatever reply or ticket reference you get.
A few practical notes from us, not from Tala. Use the same email or number on the account, or it can slow things down. Ask them to confirm in writing that the balance is zero and the account is closed. That message is worth more later than a screenshot of an empty app, and it's the one thing you should keep.
What deleting your Tala account does and doesn't erase
Here's the part people miss.
- It's permanent. Tala says deleted accounts can't be reactivated, and you can't open a new one with the same details.
- You lose your track record as a Tala customer. Tala's help page says keeping the account keeps your credit history with them. Delete it, and if you come back, you won't be able to start from that history.
- Records are still kept. Tala's help pages say that even after an account-deletion request, it must retain customer information such as customer due diligence, identification records and transaction records under anti-money laundering rules for at least five (5) years, until that regulatory period expires. Its privacy policy (checked October 30, 2026) says personal data is kept while the account is open, then for five years after closure, then deleted, though Tala may keep data in anonymized form. The same policy says Tala may keep personal data longer if it needs to comply with a legal obligation or to defend the rights of Tala or a third party.
- Your CIC record is a separate thing. The privacy policy says Tala may get data from the Credit Information Corporation and may be required to share basic credit data with the CIC. What lenders report to the CIC isn't wiped by closing an app account. That follows its own process.
So "delete" here means you stop being a customer. It doesn't mean the loan never happened.
Tala data deletion request vs account deletion
These are related but not identical. Tala's help center has a separate entry for requesting deletion of your data, and the privacy policy lists your rights as a data subject: access, correction, objection, erasure or blocking (where the data is inaccurate, unlawfully processed, your rights were violated, or it is no longer needed and no other basis applies), portability, damages and complaint to the National Privacy Commission. The policy names a Data Protection Officer at dpo@tala.ph.
If what you really want is to know what they hold on you, or to correct something wrong, an access or correction request can be the better first move. Erasure is not automatic. Tala's privacy policy says it may deny a request when it needs to comply with a legal obligation, when you have unpaid loans, or when it needs to protect the rights of Tala or a third party, and the AML retention rules above still apply even after you ask to delete the app account.

Tala still texting after payment? Check which app you used
A pattern we keep seeing in older posts: someone says "Tala" kept texting or calling after they paid, or after they deleted. When you read closer, some of these involved apps with names like "Tala Credit", or an iOS app the poster themselves wasn't sure was legitimate. In one, the poster said the app asked them to send an OTP to delete the account.
We can't tell from those posts whether the real Tala was involved. But two things are clear enough:
- Don't send an OTP to anyone who messages you. The deletion steps in Tala's help article list ID photos and a selfie. They don't mention sending a one-time code to anyone.
- Check that the app you borrowed from is the one recorded with the SEC, under the company name on your loan agreement.
If you're sure it's the real Tala and you're still being contacted for a loan you paid, send your proof of payment and the settlement confirmation. If it turns into harassment or contacts in your phonebook get messaged, the complaint routes to SEC, NPC and CICC: https://borrowtalk.com/ph/guides/online-loan-complaint-foi-sec-npc-cicc/
Many of the reports we found are several months old, so treat them as patterns, not current Tala behaviour.

FAQ
Can I delete my Tala account if I still have a balance?
No. Tala's help article says the balance has to be settled first.
What do I need to delete my Tala account?
Full name, registered mobile number or email, a photo of the front of your ID, and a selfie holding that ID, sent through Tala's help page.
Will deleting Tala remove my record from the CIC?
No. Closing an app account doesn't erase what's been reported to the Credit Information Corporation. If a paid Tala loan still shows as unpaid on your CIC report, get Tala's written confirmation that the account is settled first, then file a dispute through the CIC. The CIC forwards it to Tala, and Tala is the one that corrects the data. Filing is free.
Can I make a new Tala account after deleting?
Tala says you can't reactivate a deleted account or create a new one with the same details.
Does deleting Tala stop collectors?
Not by itself. Deletion needs a zero balance first, so if you're still being contacted after paying, the fix is the proof of payment and settlement confirmation, not the delete button. If the messages come from an app with a lookalike name, deleting the real Tala account changes nothing.
If I delete my Tala account, is all my data gone after five years?
Not necessarily. Tala says it deletes personal data when the five-year post-closure period ends, but may keep anonymized data, and may keep personal data longer for a legal obligation or to defend its or a third party's rights. CIC records are separate.
