Paid Loan Still on Your CIC Credit Report? How to Dispute It (Free)

If an online loan you already paid still shows as unpaid on your CIC credit report, the fix is a free CIC dispute that goes back to the lender who reported it. How to get your report, the ODRS steps, and the official timelines.

Paid off the OLA months ago, and the CIC credit report still says past due? You can file a dispute with the Credit Information Corporation for free. The CIC sends it to the lender that reported the data, and the lender is the one that confirms or corrects it. Before you file, get a fresh copy of your report and have your proof of full payment ready.

The steps below follow CIC's online dispute page and CIC Circular 2019-01, checked October 30, 2026. Forms can change, so do a quick check on CIC's site before you start.

How to get your CIC credit report

You get your CIC credit report through a CIC-accredited partner (apps and credit bureaus CIC lists on its site) or CIC's direct-to-consumer program. There's usually a fee, and prices vary by channel and change often. KYC is done online by video, so you don't need to visit an office.

A few tips:

  • Use a partner listed on CIC's own site, not one you found through an ad.
  • The report comes with a transaction reference number (TRN). Keep it. You'll need it to dispute.
  • Note the date of the report. CIC requires a report that's no more than 30 days old. If yours is older, get a new one.

Paid loan still showing in credit report: why it happens

It's frustrating, but there are a few ordinary reasons, and not all of them are errors:

  • Timing. Lenders submit data on a schedule. A loan paid last week may not be updated yet.
  • Different states. Paid, posted, settled, closed, and credit report updated are five separate steps. You might have paid, the app might show zero, and the lender's last submission to CIC might still be from before that. • Different products under one brand. A paylater, a cash loan and a card from the same group can be reported as separate accounts, sometimes by different entities.
  • Different bureaus. CIC data is shared with several credit bureaus, and their reports don't always look identical. A BT thread where a lender was missing from one bureau report but showed up as disputed on another: https://borrowtalk.com/ph/discussion/68105ea8-803f-4201-8ca8-26959211ef2a/

If the loan was paid only recently, give it one reporting cycle before disputing. If it's been a couple of months, or the report shows a past-due amount you know is wrong, it's time. CIC's dispute page lists the reasons it accepts, including wrong or outdated data, missing records, a paid loan still showing as unpaid, and negative information on a loan settled more than 3 years ago.

How to file a CIC dispute online (ODRS), step by step

  1. Get your evidence together first. Receipts with reference numbers, the app screen showing zero balance, and if possible a certificate of full payment or a no-outstanding-balance letter from the lender. Ask the lender for it in writing.
  2. Go to the online dispute page on CIC's official website.
  3. Enter the 14-digit TRN from your report, using the same email you used when you got the report.
  4. Pass the eVerify liveness check. You'll need a camera.
  5. Pick the account(s) you're disputing and explain briefly: "Paid in full on [date], reference [number]. Report shows unpaid." If your lender isn't in the dropdown, CIC treats it as a complaint instead of a dispute.
  6. Describe the error and keep your proof ready. The lender may ask for it by email.
  7. Save the confirmation. Screenshot it.

Filing is free, and one TRN can cover several lenders, but only once. So if more than one account is wrong, include them all in the same dispute.

A borrower in an older thread did roughly this: after a paylater and card still showed unpaid post-settlement, they asked the lender for statements and a no-debt letter first, then planned the CIC dispute. That order makes sense. The lender's own paper is what usually settles it.

How long a CIC dispute takes

Under CIC Circular 2019-01, the lender that reported the data has 3 working days to resolve a simple dispute, 7 for a complex one and 20 for a highly technical one, counted from when it gets the notice. Disputes that aren't classified are treated as simple. You follow up through the same email thread, or write to dispute@creditinfo.gov.ph.

If the lender confirms the error, the data should be corrected. If the lender says the data is right, you'll need to go back to the lender with your proof.

When the lender itself won't respond

Sometimes the problem is upstream. The lender won't issue a certificate of full payment, or says the account isn't settled. Then the dispute isn't really a CIC problem anymore.

Can you get a new loan with this on your report?

This comes up a lot in the community. It depends on the lender, and a paid-but-not-updated record is a different situation from an unpaid one. One borrower in our community asked about borrowing after late payments across GLoan and BillEase, and the answers varied.

Fixing the record doesn't guarantee approval. It just means lenders are looking at accurate data.

FAQ

Is a CIC dispute free?

Yes. CIC says filing a dispute is free of charge. Getting the credit report itself usually costs a fee.

How long does a CIC dispute take?

Under CIC Circular 2019-01, the reporting lender has 3, 7 or 20 working days depending on whether the dispute is simple, complex or highly technical. Unclassified disputes count as simple.

How old can my credit report be when I dispute?

No more than 30 days old. If yours is older, get a new one first, and use the 14-digit TRN on it with the same email.

Can I remove a settled OLA from my CIC record?

Not just because it's settled. You can dispute data that's wrong or outdated, such as a paid loan still showing as unpaid. CIC's dispute page also lists negative information on a loan settled more than 3 years ago as a reason to dispute.

Who actually fixes the record, CIC or the lender?

The lender that reported the data. CIC routes the dispute and updates the record based on what the lender confirms.
